SHARE: Sharing Healthcare Accomplishments in Rural Environments
4 November 2004
Rural communities in Colorado have accomplished a myriad of successful healthcare projects. The Colorado Rural Health Center, in partnership with the Governor’s Office, has created a new program called SHARE – Sharing Healthcare Accomplishments in Rural Environments – to acknowledge and promote these rural health success stories.
Through SHARE, a report will be developed that describes these wonderful projects. The stories will be highlighted in a SHARE website, which will be searchable by location, topic, or issue.
In early 2005, after the report is done and the website launched, funds will be available so people from rural communities can visit one another and learn how to replicate or adapt these projects in their own communities.
The Colorado Rural Health Center is currently collecting stories for the SHARE website. Here are just a few examples of stories that might be included in the report:
- Volunteer EMS agency and local civic group host community event to raise money for EMS equipment.
- Senior center sets up home visits for seniors with high school students, who in turn learn about the history of their region.
- Public health nurses work with a private dentist to provide free dental screenings for children at a migrant farm worker camp.
- Health clinic develops creative strategy to immunize children.
- Local government agencies work with community groups to build a multi-generational community center.
These are just examples that might trigger ideas for a success story. We are looking for a variety of stories – big successes and small - from all areas, agencies, and health arenas.
If you have a story to tell or even just a lead we can follow up on, we want to hear from you!
Please contact the Colorado Rural Health Center at 303-832-7493 or 800-851-6782; or email us at info@coruralhealth.org. We’ll have someone visit you or call to collect your story.
