22nd Annual Nightingale Finalist from Central Colorado
The follwoing nurses were announced as the finalists from the Central CO region, they will now be invited to the state event hosted by the Colorado Nurses Foundation on 12 May:

The six recipients of the Nightingale Award:
- Carol Conger, family nurse practitioner, Vail Valley Medical Center;
- Maureen C. Fields, staff nurse pediatrics, Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins;
- Susan Hagedorn, associate professor, University of Colorado at Denver & Health Sciences Center, Denver;
- David Kearns, flight nurse and clinical coordinator, St. Anthony Hospitals, Denver;
- Ruth West, public health nurse, Weld County Department of Public Health & Environment, Greeley; and
- Mary M. Yoder, wound and ostomy nurse, Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, La Junta.
Each recipient received a sculpture of “The Nightingale”, created by Colorado artist Jan Searle-Kubby. The Nightingale Awards were established as a tribute to the professional excellence of Colorado’s registered nurses. The statewide event is designed to recognize the contributions of Colorado nurses and serve as a fundraiser for scholarships and educational activities for nurses throughout the state. Since 1999, CNF has awarded 143 scholarships totaling $176,500.
The Colorado Nurses Foundation (CNF) sponsors the annual statewide program, which was begun in 1985. The Colorado AHEC System and Colorado Springs Nightingale Committee provide the nomination process and sponsor the local recognition events. Sara Jarrett, Professor at Regis University, is President of the Colorado Nurses Foundation. Linda Schuyler, Health Education Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, is Chair of the 2006 event.
